When Jack Ellis declared to Islam in December 2007, preaching decorate various U.S. media and a number of international mass media. No wonder if his decision to convert to Islam became a byword,  because he was s still serving as mayor of Macon, Georgia, USA.Ellis was originally converted to Christianity, moved into a Muslim after years of studying the Koran. He said two words "syahadat" in a small ceremony in Senegal, West Africa. After converting to Islam, Ellis take care of the legal status of Jack Ellis changes his name to Hakim Mansour Ellis. He still uses his family name at the request of his two daughters.Ellis was first elected as mayor of Macon on December 14, 1999 to 2003. He later became mayor of Macon terpihh returned and served until Desembcr months of 2007. Ellis is the first blacks elected mayor of Macon over 176 years throughout the city."I went back to my roots after many years of contemplation," said Ellis when asked why he chose to convert to Islam. He continued, "Why would someone embrace Christianity? You do it because you feel you did the right thing ... For me, it's not a big problem. But many people want to know what you believe."Ellis said he studied the Koran for many years and he was finding his purpose in life in Islam during his visit to Senegal, West Africa. According to Ellis, grandmother-his ancestors had converted to Islam before they were brought to North America as slaves.After becoming a Muslim, a father of five children began to accustom themselves to praying five times a day and regularly visited the Islamic Center on Bloomfield Road. Ellis said they were proud to freedom of religion in the U.S.."We believe the Prophet Muhammad as the last prophet, as we believe. Moses as a prophet," said Ellis.Hakim Mansour Ellis was born on January 6, 1946 in Macon. He bagged a degree in art from St.. Leo College in Florida. Ellis served in the U.S. Military Service for two years and participated in the Vietnam War were sent to the 101st U.S. Air Force with the rank of Sergeant. Of his services in the army, Ellis get a number of awards including three awards Bronze Star and Purple Heart awards.Ellis admitted feeling his soul was comforted and at peace after converting to Islam. Ellis also felt no need to hide his Islam from the public who have been chosen as mayor of Macon, although the decision to embrace Islam is a very personal decision."This is a very personal decision, but I also understand that I am a public figure. As mayor, I think the public deserves to know what I believe. And as a man of faith, faith that I believe now is Islam," explains Ellis.During his time as mayor of Macon, Ellis was known as a major contribution to the advancement of the city. It uses the assistance of state and federal to assist job training for young children, make the program guidance, counseling, after school programs and programs to reduce the amount of crime in the city."I still share with my extended family, Macon community who supported me when I was a; Kristian and still believed in me until now. I'm still the same person even though I change my name," said Ellis.
